Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Electrician will be responsible for all maintenance, repair and installation of electrical equipment on the campus. Additionally, the Electrician will be responsible for lamping, replacement of electric ballasts, maintaining inventory of bulbs, ballasts and other necessary equipment along with installation/ replacement of lighting controls and switches. The Electrician (mechanic) derives authority from and reports to the Electrician Foreman, Supervisor of Mechanical Maintenance, Assistant to the Director of Facilities and Director of Facilities.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive Work Orders from Foreman, carry out the requests on them and report back any unusual conditions connected with job, and the completion or suspension of the job.
- Repair or maintain, either on the job site or in the shop, electrical equipment or systems and their component parts in the academic and residence buildings.
- Make such basic installations. as directed, within the College according to New York City codes.
- Work with mechanics of other trades when particular skills are required.
- Leave areas worked in at least broom clean and free of all soiled conditions caused by work, restore panels, covers or prevent any other conditions potentially hazardous.
- Inspect equipment and systems according to Periodic Work Orders to maintain them in safe and efficient condition.
- Observe all safety rules and precautions as set forth by the College, OSHA, and the State Insurance Fund.
- Perform any other work deemed necessary for the good of the College, when called upon by his superiors.
- Submit a time sheet at the end of each work day indicating amount of time spent on each job and the department to which the jobs are to be charged.
- Responsible for tools and equipment assigned by the College.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years work experience in the electrical trade plus proof of training or schooling on his own in the areas of theory, print schematic reading controls, etc.
- Have a working knowledge of schematic drawings and building drawings.
- Knowledgeable of local and national electrical codes and to gauge the work accordingly.
- Able to use any testing and recording instruments applicable to equipment or systems in the College.
- Able to lift up to fifty pounds without accommodation.
- Able to climb ladders up to 25 feet without accommodation.
- Must be responsive and supportive of the College Facilities' efforts to save energy and minimize waste.

Competitive Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). New hires start at 75% of the full rate, increasing to 100% after 24 months. Employees receive subsequent annual increases based on the terms outlined in the contract. Overtime, comp time, and banked vacation time eligible.
